In the last two months,Europe lost two amazing airlines that were around for more than 40 years. I will be free to say that,Air Berlin was my favorite airline in Europe...sadly,they are no more.

Air Berlin PLC & Co. Luftverkehrs branded as airberlin or airberlin.com, is Germany's second-largest airline, after Lufthansa, and Europe's seventh-largest airline in terms of passengers carried. It maintains hubs at Berlin Tegel Airport and Düsseldorf Airport and serves 12 German cities as well as destinations in Europe, the Caribbean and the Americas.

Air Berlin is a member of the Oneworld alliance, and owns the subsidiary Belair in Switzerland while the sale of its 49% stake Austrian subsidiary NIKI to Etihad Airways was announced in December 2016. It is listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. Etihad Airways is the largest shareholder, having increased its shareholding to 29.21% in 2011. Air Berlin is headquartered in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, a borough of Berlin.

On 15 August 2017 Air Berlin stated it was filing for insolvency, but that flights would continue, in part thanks to a loan provided by the German Government.


Monarch Airlines

Monarch Airlines, also known simply as Monarch, was a British charter and scheduled airline based at Luton, that operated scheduled flights to destinations in the Mediterranean, Canary Islands, Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Sweden and Turkey. The airline's headquarters were at Luton, with other bases at Birmingham, Leeds/Bradford, Gatwick and Manchester. Monarch was one of the oldest UK airlines not to have changed its original name before it ceased operations. It had around 3,000 employees as of 1 October 2017.

The airline carried over 5.7 million passengers during 2015, a 19% decrease compared with 2014. Monarch was due to receive in 2018 the first of its 45 new Boeing 737 MAX-8 aircraft. These would have eventually replaced the current fleet of A320 and A321 aircraft. The company holds a United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Type A Operating Licence, permitting it to carry passengers, cargo and mail on aircraft with 20 or more seats.

Monarch entered administration at 4:30am on 2 October 2017, ceasing operations with immediate effect, around a year after rumours of its imminent demise became widespread. The airline's website is now managed by the CAA, and corporate and staff affairs directed by KPMG.
