Overview
Virtavia’s Consolidated-Vultee XB-46, formerly payware, is now free for FSX and Prepar3D. It is flown from the virtual cockpit; no 2D panel is supplied. Pilot and copilot positions are represented, with bare-metal textures at 4,096-pixel resolution.
Flaps, spoilerons, crew hatches, bomb bay doors, engine vents and crew figures are animated. Bombs in the bay and crew members can be shown or hidden. Jet sounds, automatic engine smoke and a dedicated smoky startup effect accompany the model. An illustrated PDF manual and Photoshop paint kit are included.
The sole XB-46 first flew on 2 April 1947. The straight-wing experimental bomber grouped four Allison J35 engines in two large nacelles and was intended for a crew of three. A pneumatic system operated equipment including the landing gear, bay doors, access hatches and brakes. It did not enter production as the XB-47 pointed toward a new generation of bombers.
