Overview
This Douglas C-117D is a standalone FSX/P3D package based largely on Jan Visser and Digital Dakota Works’ C-47. It adds start-up procedures, automatic mixture management, an interactive checklist, cockpit voices and a Monitor panel in a retextured virtual cockpit.
Manfred Jahn revised the models, Gordon “gman” Madison and Nick Cooper provided textures, and Alan G. Ampolsk and Ralf Scholten carried out testing. The original historical research is by John D.
Intended to succeed the DC-3, the Super DC-3 introduced a stretched fuselage, more powerful engines, a retractable tailwheel and enlarged tail surfaces. It could serve in cargo, passenger and medical transport roles. Commercial adoption was limited, but the US Navy and Marines used it as the R4D-8 and, from 1962, the C-117D.
