Overview
B4Gunner’s Navion recreates N4888K with help from its owner and pilot, Chad Hawthorne. This four-seat aircraft has retractable landing gear and an analogue panel with Aera GPS, radios and an hour meter.
Four liveries are supplied: Default, Lady Lightning, K-38 and Ugly Sweater. The last adds the coloured holiday lighting shown in the gallery, alongside cockpit pictures and views of the aircraft in flight.
The PDF checklist covers the hydraulic system, engine start, take-off, landing and shutdown. The author’s illustrated document tells the story of N4888K and retains the credits for the earlier model by Richard Schwertfeger and Bill Leaming. Watch the presentation video.
Compatibility
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 on PC, version 1.21.18 or later. MSFS 2024 compatibility has not been confirmed for this freeware edition.
Installation advice
Rikoooo Hub installs the aircraft and its sounds in MSFS 2020 Community. The documents are available in the Hub. Keep only one copy of the freeware Navion; if another installer already manages it, remove or disable that copy with that tool first. The standard asobo-vcockpits-instruments-navsystems, asobo-vcockpits-instruments-generic and asobo-vliveries components are required for the GPS, radios, hour meter and registration display. They are supplied by the simulator and are not redistributed with this download.
Known limitations
The author released this freeware model as a work in progress. The same studio’s Navion B/Super 260, L-17 and Twin Navion are separate products and are not required to install it.
Release notes
22 December 2021: revises the N4888K textures, including an 8K texture, and fixes the trim-wheel animation.
