Overview
The AlphaSim/Virtavia F-8 Crusader, formerly payware and now freeware, is offered as Henk Schuitemaker's native FSX conversion, packaged by Danny Garnier. It supports Prepar3D v4, with adapted 2D and virtual panels and aircraft configuration files.
Four variants are represented: US Navy F-8C and F-8J, French naval F-8E(FN), and US Marine Corps F-8K. The June 2019 update adds canopy textures, exterior specular maps and revised radar for the long-nose models.
The pilot can be hidden, and weapons are loaded by entering their payload weights. Further additions include a fuel-dump switch, wing-vapour effects, afterburner effects with a boom sound and a new sound pack.
The kneeboard checklist explains animations including the refuelling probe. panel.cfg is prepared for the RFN Carrier Gauge. The real Crusader is recognisable by its nose intake and variable-incidence wing, developed for carrier operations.
