Overview
Restauravia’s Fouga Zéphyr CM175 v1.1 for FSX has two configurations: “solo”, with one pilot on board, and “DC”, with two pilots and control from the rear seat. Full English documentation is included.
Simulator adaptations include a steerable nosewheel, GPS, VOR/DME, an autopilot and extra lights for flaps, landing gear and airbrakes. The real aircraft relied on braking for ground steering.
A Fouga for carrier training
The Zéphyr differs from the Magister through its strengthened structure and landing gear, extendable nose shock strut, sliding canopies, arresting hook and catapult attachments. An angle-of-attack indicator, the BIP, assists during the approach. The sliding canopies allowed launches and recoveries with the canopies open.
The documentation lists a 12.15 m wingspan, 10.20 m length and 2.90 m height, with a 110° butterfly tail. Two Marboré II engines provide 400 daN each at ground level, with a maximum engine speed of 22,600 rpm. The stated maximum mass for a catapult launch is 3,450 kg.
The prototype, then called Esquif, first flew on 31 July 1956. Thirty aircraft were delivered to the French Navy between 1959 and 1961, serving notably aboard Foch and Clemenceau. A naval Zéphyr aerobatic team was also formed in 1961.
Modelling and integration: André Chancel; 2D panels and gauges: Jean-Pierre Langer; flight dynamics: Jean-Pierre Bourgeois; ground handling: Benoit Dubé; textures: Marc Hardouin. Technical adviser: Claude Marie, a former Zéphyr instructor. Restauravia.
