Overview

Restauravia’s Fouga Zéphyr v2.0, developed with the Royale French Navy team, is part of Sylvain Parouty and RFN’s « Opérations embarquées » project. It recreates the naval trainer for the setting of French carrier operations in the 1960s and 1970s.

  • Solo: one pilot in the front seat.
  • DC, dual control: two pilots, with the student in front and instructor behind. This version is suited to FSX’s shared-cockpit mode for simulated instruction.

The authors added a steerable nosewheel, GPS, VOR/DME, TACAN, autopilot and indicator lights for flaps, landing gear and airbrakes. These are simulation adaptations; the real aircraft used brakes for ground steering.

FSX Acceleration is required. The package is not compatible with FS2004, and compatibility with FSX SP1 or SP2 alone is not assured. Read the supplied manuals, especially the carrier-landing guide.

Video introduction by Amentiba:

The naval prototype, then called the CM170M Esquif, first flew on 31 July 1956. Thirty aircraft were delivered between 1959 and 1961 as the CM175 Zéphyr, serving notably aboard Foch and Clemenceau during a career of more than thirty years. A naval Zéphyr aerobatic team was formed in 1961.

Zephyr

Changes from the Magister included a reinforced airframe and landing gear, an extendable nose strut, sliding canopies for open-canopy deck operations, an arrestor hook and catapult attachment points. The BIP angle-of-attack indicator assists approach control.

  • 110° V-tail; span 12.15 m, length 10.20 m, height 2.90 m.
  • Two Marboré II engines: 400 daN each at sea level, maximum speed 22,600 rpm.
  • Maximum catapult launch weight: 3,450 kg.
