Overview
This native MSFS 2024 edition of the Cessna 170B Backcountry represents a 1954 single-engine aircraft adapted for small airstrips. The base model has a 145 hp Continental O-300-A engine, a fixed-pitch propeller and a STOL kit. The package also includes 180 hp variants.
Available configurations include 26-inch Bushwheels, 29-inch and 35-inch Tundra tyres, and straight floats. The Tundra tyres deform with pressure, pick up dirt on loose surfaces and can be inflated using the pump beside the left wheel. Several liveries are supplied, including Jon Coughlin’s competition STOL scheme.
A basic autopilot helps on longer trips; its navigation and approach modes work with VORs and localizers. The included author’s manual covers the instruments and flight procedures.
Compatibility
Native package for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The MSFS 2020 edition uses a separate archive.
Installation advice
To use the Tundra tyre pump, leave the aircraft, crouch beside the left wheel and click the centre of the tyre. The green button inflates and the red button deflates.
Known limitations
A recreational representation of the 170B; not every detail of the real aircraft is reproduced. Straight floats cannot be used on a runway.
Release notes
2.1.1 fixes walkaround mode on wheeled variants. Version 2.1 adds the autopilot and heading bug.
