Overview
Sal1800’s Wedell-Williams Model 44 recreates a 1930s racing monoplane powered by a 500 hp Pratt & Whitney Wasp Junior radial engine. It suits both pylon racing and longer cross-country flights navigated by visual landmarks.
Two configurations are included. The 1934 racer has basic instruments and no electrical system, with a grid compass, chronograph and large fuel tank behind the panel. The modern replica adds instruments, lights, a radio and transponder, and replaces the original tail skid with a tailwheel.
The three liveries depict Miss Patterson no. 44, Miss New Orleans no. 92 and Roscoe Turner’s Gilmore Red Lion no. 121. The included author’s guide explains starting, instruments, takeoff and landing techniques.
Compatibility
Edition for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. MSFS 2024 is not declared for this package.
Installation advice
On the 1934 model, hold the brakes or set the wheel chocks before starting the engine from the cockpit Ground Crew Instructions card. The author recommends assigning elevator, aileron and rudder trim controls.
Known limitations
Forward visibility is very limited during taxi and landing. The vintage model uses a tail skid and has no conventional parking brake. The aircraft is not designed for aerobatics.
Release notes
Added the modern replica; improved startup and shutdown sounds; improved cold starting.
