Flying Thailand

01

Understand the mission

Start with the historic context: it sets the atmosphere, aircraft choice and overall logic of the journey.

02

Prepare the simulator

Check scenery, recommended aircraft, fuel and weather before launching the first leg.

03

Follow the legs

Use the airport codes, flying times and route notes to build your navigation leg by leg.

04

Enjoy the journey

Let the route shape the experience: adjust lighting, document waypoints and take time to rediscover the story.

Historic flight plan

Michel Lagneau route notebook

Settle into the cockpit, prepare your aircraft and follow the journey as a proper historic crossing.

Michel Lagneau

Thai Airways, domestic Thailand in 1967

This plan is based on Thai Airways domestic routes in 1967. It draws a national journey from Chiang Rai and the mountainous north to Bangkok, Phuket, Trang, Hat Yai and Pattani.

The article is ideal for discovering Thailand in short and medium stages, with overflights of towns not present in Flight Simulator 2004.

Period1967

A Thai domestic network taking shape.

Flight spiritNational tour

North, central valley, Isan, Bangkok and southern peninsula.

AircraftSingle or twin-engine touring aircraft

A light aircraft keeps visual references alive.

NavigationTowns and provinces

A few manual points complete available airports.

Understanding the flight

The route works as a panorama of the country: northern mountains, inland towns, Mekong region, Bangkok and then the long descent south.

Mae Sariang and Nong Khai matter even without classic airports because they preserve the geographical continuity of the network.

Before departure

  • Choose an aircraft that is easy to land and pleasant at low altitude.
  • Prepare manual points Mae Sariang and Nong Khai before departure.
  • Keep readable tropical weather, with visibility over northern terrain.
  • Split the page into two sessions if needed: north and northeast, then Bangkok and south.

Suggested route

Mountain north

Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, Mae Sariang, Chiang Mai, Lampang and Phrae give the most visual character.

VTCT → VTCH → VTCC → VTCL → VTCP

Centre and Isan

Uttaradit, Tak, Mae Sot, Phitsanulok, Nong Khai, Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, Khon Kaen and Ubon build the inland network.

VTCP → VTPU → VTPT → VTPM → VTPP → VTUW → VTUI → VTUK → VTUU

Bangkok and south

Bangkok, Phuket, Trang, Hat Yai and Pattani finish with peninsular Thailand.

VTUU → VTBD → VTSP → VTST → VTSS → VTSK

Navigation steps

  1. Mountain north :VTCT → VTCH → MAESARIANG → VTCC → VTCL → VTCP
  2. Centre and Isan :VTCP → VTPU → VTPT → VTPM → VTPP → NONGKHAI → VTUW → VTUI → VTUK → VTUU
  3. Bangkok and south :VTUU → VTBD → VTSP → VTST → VTSS → VTSK

Experience tips

Do not climb too high in the north: valleys and terrain are the real flavour of the plan.

The southern descent can be flown as a second day of domestic airline service.
