Four days, a Puss Moth and 10,046 kilometres to South Africa
On 14 November 1932, Amy Johnson left England in her De Havilland DH 80A Puss Moth “Desert Cloud”, aiming to reach Cape Town alone in record time.
This route keeps the historic backbone and adds practical refuelling stops so the journey remains flyable with the recommended simulator aircraft.
The flight’s character
This is not a comfortable cruise: a 106 hp engine, long legs, African weather and constant range management define the experience.
The added refuelling points keep the spirit of the achievement while avoiding unrealistic range pressure in the simulator model.
Simulator note
Fly light, use realistic but fair weather and keep a logbook. The reward is in the daily progress rather than in rushing the route.
