Baja California, the Sea of Cortés and missionary history

Trans Mar de Cortés is poorly documented, but the name “Route of the Missionaries” immediately sets the tone. Loreto, founded in 1697 by Jesuit missionaries, was the first capital of California before Monterey.

The route crosses Baja California and reaches northwestern Mexico: La Paz, Loreto, Guaymas, Ciudad Obregón, Hermosillo and Chihuahua.

Flying atmosphere

  • The route alternates sea, desert, terrain and historic towns.
  • Loreto is the narrative heart of the journey: take time to stop there.
  • The Chihuahua sectors stretch the flight inland and change the mood completely.
