In the same way as for the Belgian Congo, and just after world war one, the Netherlands wanted to join rapidly their colony in Dutch East Indies, that became modern Indonesia in 1949.

The first flight, which had to last 22 days, took finally place between the 1st of October and the 25th of November 1924... With numerous engine failures and a slight crash, fortunately without any victim among the pilots and passengers.

The fearless Dutch who accepted to get involved in this new way of travelling (7660 nm), between Amsterdam and Batavia, nowadays Jakarta, had plenty of time to discover a varied geography, with high-contrast, regarding the flat landscapes of their own country.

This flight plan allow me to mention Jens B. Kristensen, Danish developper, author of the Fokker VIIa for Flight Simulator (file : fviia v2.zip - FS Dome), named "Pelikaan", the airplane used in 1924.

A great thank to Kristensen for his work.
