Following previews of Miltech Simulations’ Dash 8, SimWorks Studios has shared the first monthly update on its own Dash 8 Classic Series for MSFS 2024.

The update was shared on Discord and covers systems, engine simulation, and release plans.

The project, first revealed in July, has been in development since late 2022 and was originally planned as SimWorks Studios’ next major aircraft, following the PC-12 Legacy and NG for MSFS 2020, according to the developer.

The series will include the Dash 8-100, -200, and -300, each sold separately, with the -100 variant planned to release first. The -200 and -300 will follow shortly thereafter, owing to their similarities. Discounted bundles will be available.

All three aircraft are MSFS 2024 exclusives, taking advantage of that platform’s graphical and flight model improvements.

    Systems & Flight Model

SimWorks Studios is aiming for a detailed simulation of the Dash 8 and says real-world pilots and mechanics are assisting development and providing technical documentation.

A custom electrical system is included, with over 300 circuits and 70 electrical buses, covering both APU-equipped and non-APU-equipped aircraft. The electrical system will simulate AC and DC power distribution, inverters and electrical loads under normal and abnormal operating conditions.

The engines are being developed outside MSFS 2024’s default engine simulation, based on real-world performance data and mathematical modelling. The developer claims this will allow accurate engine response, including automatic power adjustments during single-engine operations.

New beta-range control logic is in development, meaning better transitions between flight idle and reverse-range operation during landing and taxiing. These improvements will also be carried over to the SWS PC-12 and Kodiak 100/900.

The Dash 8 avionics will include individual LCD elements and analogue engine instruments, as well as more modern electronic systems found on the -200 and -300 variants.

    Artwork & Release Plans

SimWorks Studios intends to use MSFS 2024’s modular system to create multiple cockpit and cabin configurations.

The Dash 8 is planned to feature dynamic cockpit elements, with aircraft components moving under flight loads and undergoing progressive weathering. Several liveries will be included at release, ranging from 1980s retro up to modern-day.

SimWorks Studios is among three developers currently known to be working on Dash 8 aircraft for MSFS, with Majestic Software developing the Dash 8-300 and 400 and Miltech Simulations developing the Dash 8-200/-300.

SimWorks Studios is currently the only developer releasing a Dash 8-100 variant.

No release date or price point has been announced. A new Dash 8 development update is expected at the end of November.

iniBuilds has recently published a two-minute trailer for their upcoming rendition of the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (KMSY) for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, serving the New Orleans Metropolitan Area with a yearly average of 12.4 million passengers.

The airport was built in the mid-1940s after a brief stint as a military base during World War 2. Its early days were pretty rough, with a makeshift terminal in a hangar-like building. To make matters worse, it was shut down a year later after being submerged under 2 feet of water during the Fort Lauderdale Hurricane (1947).

A new terminal was inaugurated in 1959 and remained in use until 2019, although it was massively expanded over the years, with the most notable work occurring in the 1970s and twice in the 1990s and 2000s.

In late 2015, the New Orleans Aviation Board and the City Council approved a plan to build a $600 million terminal building on the north side of the property, with two concourses and 30 gates. It was designed by the Argentine-American architect Cesar Pelli.

Construction of the terminal began in 2016, and the project scope was changed mid-construction to add 5 additional gates. It launched in November 2019 at a cost of $1.3 billion.

It’s an operating base for Breeze Airways and is served by Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, Allegiant Air, American Airlines, American Eagle, Avelo Airlines, British Airways, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, United Airlines, and United Express.

The scenery promises an accurate rendition of the airport, with hand-crafted ground textures, highly detailed terminal interiors, true-to-life landside, custom dynamic airport lighting, custom taxiway signage, an up-to-date ground layout, and more.
