01

Understand the mission

Start with the historic context: it sets the atmosphere, aircraft choice and overall logic of the journey.

02

Prepare the simulator

Check scenery, recommended aircraft, fuel and weather before launching the first leg.

03

Follow the legs

Use the airport codes, flying times and route notes to build your navigation leg by leg.

Southern Africa, Nile, Russia and Central Asia

This third part starts in Angola and crosses southern Africa, Madagascar, East Africa, the Nile, the Mediterranean, Europe, Russia and Central Asia.

The logbook becomes more enduring: long nights, African plateaus, deserts, volcanoes, great rivers and a Himalayan avoidance route.

PeriodFebruary-June 2004

Stages 70 to 104.

Still slow, but now very far from home.

HighlightsAfrica, Nile, Russia, Asia

A true continental crossing.

DifficultyDistance and terrain

The Himalayan avoidance shapes the ending.

Understanding the flight

The journey leaves the short coastal-hop rhythm and becomes a crossing of continents.

Africa, the Nile and then Russia provide three very different moods before entering Asia.

Before departure

  • Fly by chapters rather than as a simple list of fields.
  • Keep believable weather and record winds, altitudes, fuel and diversions.
  • Load the main points on the map before departure to keep the route readable.
  • Accept a slower pace: these plans become more immersive when the logbook can breathe.

Experience tips

Do not underestimate virtual fatigue: this part crosses many climates and terrains.

The Himalayan avoidance should remain a safety decision, not just a line on the map.
